Practical Life exercises offer a wholesome range of activities that enable children to develop control and coordination of movement, awareness of their environment, and positive work habits. Through spontaneous and purposeful work, children build concentration, attention, independence, order, responsibility, and a positive self-image. These experiences also nurture character and self-discipline. Embedded within Practical Life is Grace and Courtesy, guiding children to move with care, respect others, and interact with confidence, kindness, and social awareness.
Sensorial exercises help prepare for intellectual development in an orderly manner. Sensorial materials introduce the concepts of colour, weight, shape, texture, size, sound and smell in an enjoyable way. These experiences lay the foundation for understanding and classifying the world around them. “The hands are the instruments of men’s intellectual.” Dr. Maria Montessori.
The Mathematics curriculum is based on learning through experience. Using hands-on materials specially designed for young learners, children explore numbers and simple calculations in a concrete and enjoyable way. As their confidence grows, they naturally progress from working with materials to understanding more abstract ideas such as geometry and fractions—building strong foundations for lifelong learning.
Our Montessori language programme is built on a phonetic approach that supports confident reading and writing. Language comes alive in the classroom as children share ideas, sing songs, enjoy stories, and express their discoveries. Through hands-on Montessori materials and rich daily experiences, children develop a strong foundation in literacy—naturally, joyfully, and at their own pace.
The Cultural area introduces children to the world beyond the classroom. Through hands-on materials such as globes, landform models, puzzles, and the study of plants and animals, children develop an understanding of nature, geography, and global awareness—nurturing curiosity and respect for the world around them. These experiences cultivate curiosity, empathy, and a quiet sense of responsibility, guiding each child to understand their place in an interconnected world.
Children Own the World—and Beyond
MMI’s News Hour Programme invites children to engage thoughtfully with the world around them. Through carefully planned, hands-on experiences inspired by real-world events, children are guided to observe, discuss, and reflect on global happenings in a developmentally appropriate way.
This programme nurtures awareness, empathy, and cultural understanding, preparing children to grow with confidence and sensitivity in an increasingly interconnected and cosmopolitan world.
MMI’s Passport Programme is your child’s gateway to a meaningful global journey.
Through rich, hands-on experiences, children develop a genuine appreciation for the world as they explore different countries—their geography, people, history, and cultures—in an engaging and memorable way.
Children are immersed in experiences including new songs, traditional crafts, folktales, national flowers and animals, as well as early exposure to new languages—cultivating curiosity, cultural awareness, and a lifelong respect for diversity.
A child’s confidence begins with the freedom to express themselves without fear. In the early years, meaningful experiences play a vital role in shaping creativity, self-belief, and emotional development.
Children are encouraged to explore their ideas, emotions, and experiences within a supportive and nurturing environment. As they create, share, and communicate, they develop a strong sense of achievement and confidence in their own voice.
Creative and engaging experiences inspire imagination, build self-assurance, and provide authentic opportunities for children to articulate their thoughts and express themselves creatively—laying the foundation for confident communication and lifelong self-expression.
The Traveller’s Palm Programme offers children meaningful opportunities to develop writing and communication skills, beginning with simple postcards and letters before progressing to electronic forms such as emails.
This programme serves as an exchange platform where children connect with peers from different centres and countries, using a variety of media to communicate and share ideas.
Through these experiences, children embark on a creative journey—drawing on their imagination, thoughts, and personal experiences to express themselves with confidence and purpose.
TUMOS is an interactive, holistic morning gathering that brings children together across age groups. Each week, a child is selected as Leader of the Week in recognition of their ability to serve as a positive role model.
During TUMOS, younger children are inspired to learn from the older children’s positive behaviours, developing focus, self-discipline, and purposeful engagement through the use of their senses. This vertical learning experience nurtures leadership, respect, and a strong sense of community within the Montessori environment.
The MMI Mandarin Immersion Programme combines the Montessori approach with experiential and thematic learning in Mandarin. Children are immersed in the language through storytelling, art, music, and cultural celebrations, allowing them to learn through living the language rather than rote memorisation. The curriculum focuses on developing a sound foundation in the Chinese language and its culture, integrating listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural appreciation.

Activities include:
Story-based experiences — engaging tales that introduce vocabulary, sentence structure, and moral lessons.
Chinese Word Skills — recognition and writing of basic Chinese characters using Montessori-inspired materials.
Chinese idioms and tongue twisters — fun exercises to build pronunciation, fluency, and comprehension.
Traditional Chinese poetry — appreciation and recitation of classic rhymes to strengthen rhythm, tone, and expression.
Music and Movement — songs and rhythm games featuring Mandarin lyrics and traditional instruments.
Festivals and Traditions — hands-on celebrations of Chinese cultural events such as the Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, Dragon Boat Festival.
Character Development & Moral Values — guided by the Confucian principles of “Di Zi Gui” promoting virtues such as respect, diligence, gratitude, and humility.
Rooted in the Montessori understanding of the absorbent mind and sensitive periods for language, the MMI Literacy & Phonics Mastery Programme gently guides children to discover the beauty and structure of language in a way that feels natural, meaningful, and joyful.
Our aim is to nurture clear speech, refined listening, and a deep awareness of sounds—laying the foundation for confident reading and expressive language. Through carefully sequenced experiences, children move from sound to symbol, from symbol to word, and from word to meaningful communication, at their own pace and with quiet confidence.
Phonics is not taught as a drill—it is lived through the senses.
Children encounter language through multisensory Montessori materials that engage the hand, the ear, the eye, and the whole body. Sounds are explored through:
These experiences honour the child’s natural desire to explore, repeat, and master—making phonics both meaningful and deeply enjoyable.
In the prepared Montessori environment, language unfolds with joy, order, and purpose.
By the end of their preschool journey at MMI, every child emerges as a confident reader—equipped with strong phonics skills, a love for language, and the readiness to meet the next challenge of primary school with independence, curiosity, and assurance.
